National carrier Maldivian has begun flights to a new destination in China starting today.
The national airline began flights to Fuzhou, China.
Maldivian initially had flights to 5 cities in China, with the new additional flights to Fuzhou on Wednesdays every week.
The first batch of passengers from Fuzhou to Maldives arrived at 6:15 AM this morning. The passengers were greeted by Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives - Wang Fukang and Managing Director of Island Aviation - Abdul Haaris Mohamed, at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.
Speaking at today ceremony, Wang Fukang said that with the new flights to Fuzhou, the target of bringing 1.5 million tourists to the Maldives, became more possible.
He also added that more than numerous efforts are being put into strengthening the ties between China and Maldives and that more than 500,000 Chinese tourists will visit the Maldives this year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Haaris said that it is Maldivian’s aim to travel to as many destinations as possible. He also said that the new destinations by Maldivian paves way for the Maldivian tourism industry as well.
