Maldivian has announced that it will be starting flights to Sri Lanka next month. Maldivian will fly to Ratmalana Airport which is 20 minutes away capital Colombo.
The Head of Island Aviation Facilities, Ali Nashath reported that preparations to start flights to Sri Lanka are almost at a close.
Around three trips will be held from Maldives to Sri Lanka initially; however the airline revealed plans to hold daily flights between Maldives and Sri Lanka in the future.
The Managing Director of Island Aviation Abdul Haris reported to 'Avas' that the Sri Lankan government was working to complete the final steps before the start of flights as well.
Maldivian flights will start as soon as the Sri Lankan airport has completed their preparations, he revealed.
While Ratmalana Airport is the first Sri Lankan international airport, it had been made into a domestic airport after the opening of Bandaranaike International Airport. Almost 50 years have passed since the last international flight landed at this airport. The Sri Lankan government is currently undertaking the necessary efforts to restart international flights at the airport.
