The Maldives national cricket team has fallen out of the 17th Asian Games, which is currently ongoing in Incheon, S. Korea.
Though a match between Maldives and Kuwait had not been held due to the rainy weather, the umpire had announced that Maldives lost from a draw held between the two teams.
The draw is held in case a scheduled match is unable to proceed, and will automatically determine the winner of that match, according to the Asian Games guidelines.
However, according to cricket guidelines, the winner is commonly determined by its rate of goals scored in its other matches.
A Maldivian cricket board official said that the national team had more skills in comparison to that of Kuwait, and that Maldives would have emerged victorious in the match, if it had proceeded.
The national cricket team lost to Nepal by 7 wickets in the first round of the tournament’s group stage. Nepal currently remains at the top of the ladder with two victorious matches.
