Broadcast Lobby Group has announced that Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) are avidly trying to get rid of Maldivian channels.
In a letter written by the group to the President of the Maldives, Abdullah Yameen states that Broadcom are currently initiating a devious plan to get rid of Maldivian channels by allowing cable TV operator, ‘Medianet’ to introduce fees. The letter noted the importance of the President addressing the issue and suggested President Yameen to become involved.
“The fact that Broadcom is allowing Medianet to charge us for our channels to be broadcasted makes us question Broadcom’s intensions. We believe that they are intentionally sabotaging Maldivian channels by doing so. We also believe that circumstances as such requires the responsibility of the President to become involved and we request that he does so,” Broadcom wrote in the letter.
Additionally, the letter noted that they believe Broadcom should be indicted for corruption and stated that Anti-Corruption Commission should be notified. The letter stated that they did not trust or believe Broadcom was sincere as in the past, the broadcasters of Broadcasting Commission, the President and Vice-President of the Commission have mocked different media outlets.
