A search has begun on Tuesday for a Maldivian who went missing in Chennai, India.
Vnews was informed that the relevant Indian authorities are searching for Mohamed Shaafiu, 30, (of Garden, S. Hulhudhoo), who is a relative of Supreme Court Justice Ali Hameed.
Shaafiu’s mother Aminath Fariyaal, who is currently in India, told Vnews that he has been missing since 6 August, Saturday. The mother of five also said that her youngest son Shaafiu went to Chennai to get treated for psychological problems, and that he had been under treatment for four years, albeit with little progress.
She alleged Shaafiu’s mental health problems were a result of black magic, and that she knew the responsible party. Regarding this, she said that she had repeatedly sought help from the police. She said although police helped them at times, other times they did not take the matter seriously.
Fariyaal described Saafiu as an ambitious and talented person, who had completed his education in India and Sri Lanka.
The family is currently residing in Hotel Aruna in Chennai.
“He gets worked up, agitated and fearful even if he sees an ant or a fly. For two to three days before his disappearance, he kept saying that he didn’t want to be here," a tearful Fariyaal explained.
She further said that because of his condition, the family was very thorough in locking the doors and windows, and even hiding the key.
While the search is underway, Fariyaal informed that Shafiu would not have any money or clothes with him.
