Maldives has participated in the JATA Expo held in Tokyo, Japan.
The Expo, which started yesterday and will continue till tomorrow, is the biggest tourism fair held in the country.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) released a statement today stating that Japan is a country which is among the top five for tourists who visit the Maldives, however in the years 2004 and 2011 there was a drop in the number due to natural disasters. Nevertheless, Japan has been advertising Maldives at the fair and claims they intend to climb up back to the Maldives top 5 tourists list.
MMPRC has noted that while there will be many other countries participating in the fair, they hope to advertise
Maldives to all these countries as well.
One hundred and fifty countries are scheduled to participate in the fair, with 950 exhibitors. The fair is said to have an average of 110,078 people visiting. MMPRC states 39,500 of these people are professionals in the tourism sector.
Excluding MMPRC, four other Maldivian companies joined the fair.
