Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb says that the Maldivian tourism is deemed today as a “shining example” to the international community.
He made the statement while addressing the press about the Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference - which is slated to be held at Bandos from June 3rd to 5th.
Minister Adeeb said that hosting such a high-level conference in the Maldives is a major stepping stone for the country’s tourism industry and popularity.
He explained that the conference will consist of information regarding the developments in the tourism sector of other countries; and that the Maldives will also play its part in sharing its own developments and improvements.
Taking the theme of the of the conference into account, the Tourism Minister said that it holds a close link to the Maldives - that tourism is a major driving force in the country’s social framework.
He also said that as a country which also obtains massive revenue from the fishing industry, the Maldives tourism industry is the next vital asset to the country - in which the profits from the sectors are what keeps the country going.
Adeeb echoed the beliefs of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) - by saying that tourism is the foundation of the country’s social and economic development.
He also pointed out the vital conference also comes amid a milestone moment in the Maldives - which is celebrating its golden jubilee of independence.
The Tourism Minister revealed that it has been decided to unveil the “Visit Maldives Year” initiative at the conference. The initiative is planned to be marked next year.
The three-day conference will be participated by ministers and members of ministerial positions across 20 Asian countries.
