Palestinians in Gaza settle into homes built with Maldivian aid

Palestinians who were left displaced and devastated by the relentless Israeli assault on Gaza during July last year, have begun settling in the housing units that were established with the help of donations by Maldives.
A total of 100 housing units - dubbed under the name “Maldives Shelter Center” - are established in the ruins of Beit Hanun (the most affected area) following the Israeli siege that killed 11,000 Palestinians, leaving over 2,000 homes, as well as mosques and schools, in rubble.
The housing units were handed over to their occupants by the city’s Municipality and Palestine’s Ministry of Housing.
A total of 100 families, or 700 people, can take shelter in the housing units, which are comprised of a sitting room, a room, a kitchen and a toilet. Additionally, thanks to the contributions made by the Maldives, the settlers are also provided with food, water and medicine.
The occupants had stated that they are quite content on their new homes, while expressing hopes that the shelter would remain as a safe environment for them the rebuild their lives.
A Maldivian-based fund - organized by the country’s media - had garnered up a sum of $1.91 million in donations to aid Palestine.
