The Maldivian government has strongly condemned Thursday's bomb blast near the Sholakia Eid prayer congregation in Kishoreganj District in Dhaka.
The government stated that the greatest challenge facing the world today is the growing threat of terrorism carried out in the name of Islam. It added that the Maldives rejects terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
It stressed that countries need to work together to eliminate terrorism and assured that the Maldives stands with Bangladesh, as well as with the international community in eliminating the global peril.
"The Maldives stands by its brotherly country, Bangladesh at this time of distress," it added. "At this time of national grief, the Government and the people of Maldives extend sincere condolences, to the members of the bereaved families and profound sympathies to the Government and the people of Bangladesh."
Attackers carrying bombs and machetes on Thursday killed at least three people at the huge prayer rally. The incident came days after a mass murder of hostages in Dhaka.
The prayer gathering in Kishoreganj is by far the biggest such congregation in Bangladesh, a mainly Muslim country that is home to around 160 million people.
Bangladesh has been on heightened alert in the wake of the killings last Friday night and many Eid services included pleas from religious leaders for an end to the violence.
