Maldives Basketball Association (MBA) has given the opportunity for six young basketball players to partake in a basketball camp in America, commencing on the 10th till the 22nd of November.
At a ceremony held at the Youth Centre on Saturday to honor the selected players, President of MBA, Mr. Ahmed Hafiz presented the contenders with their passports and tickets for their journey.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Hafiz stated that the basketball camp was a special program organised for this year’s annual camp for the Sports Visitors Program. Under the Sports Visitors Program, the American government covers all expenses of the athletes participating from all over the world.
Mr. Hafiz noted that the contenders will have the opportunity to compete with members of the American National Basketball Association (NBA) and College basketball players.
Additionally, Mr. Hafiz stated that contenders will also be given the chance to visit the White House in Washington.
A total of six players will be participating in the camp, three of whom are female and three of whom are male.
The Official for the team is Maldives well renowned basketball player, representative of the Maldives Women’s National Basketball team, Ms. Aminath Haleem (Dil).
Along with the Maldives, Sri Lanka will be the only other SAARC country participating in the camp.
