4 Maldivian players have sailed past their opponents, landing first place as well as a spot in the 2nd round-up of the Men’s Singles event of the ongoing Carrom World Cup held at Sun Island Resort.
The 4 players include Ahmed Haamid of Group C - who triumphed over his opponents from Switzerland and America, Naazim from Group F - who overtook Poland’s no.1 Sylvester and Pakistani Mohamed Faisal, Althaf Waheed of Group K - who defeated Swtizerland’s no.1 Peter and Franc from Germany, and finally, Shaafee Mohamed of Group N - who won over German Thomas Shaal and Juno from Korea.
While the 4 men had moved on to the second round with success, the same cannot be said to the Maldivian contenders in the Women’s singles, as both Fainaz and Rayaan were dropped out of the group stage without claiming any points.
