British Airways has decided to put a hiatus on their flight operations to the Maldives and Sri Lanka starting April of the coming year.
A statement issued by British Airways said that the company had decided to put a temporary hiatus on their flight operations to Sri Lanka and Maldives, starting March 28th of the coming year. However, the operations would resume during winter of 2015, and added that these operations would be just for the winter season.
Flight operations to Sri Lanka will not resume during the winter even though it would resume for the Maldives.
Regional Commercial Manager of the South Asian branch of British Airways, Christopher Fordais revealed that
the decision to completely halt the Lankan operations was a rather difficult one, however added that the amount of support received by the region towards an operation would always be taken into account along with the profit made whilst making such decisions.
Mr. Fordais revealed that the routes of these regions are monitored on a regular basis, and further added that the Lankan operations did not provide a sufficient income.
Even though the Lankan operations have come to a permanent end, he revealed that the flights from London's Gatwick would still continue during the season of winter.
