Sri Lankan driver arrested for assaulting, mugging Maldivian

Sri Lankan police apprehended a resident driver in connection to Tuesday’s assault and mugging incident that left a Maldivian severely injured.
The driver was arrested on charges of assaulting and mugging 45-year-old Usmaan Nooradheen, who is a native to Th. Thilafushi.
According to Usmaan’s family, the culprit mugged 6,000 US Dollars and 50,000 Sri Lankan rupees from him, as he was heading home via a rickshaw after shopping. He was reportedly assaulted near the Colombo-based US Embassy.
It is not known on exactly when the driver was arrested, but the Sri Lankan police confirmed that he was taken into custody for being implicated in the incident.
Usmaan headed to Sri Lanka to meet up with family relatives before traveling to India for his child’s operation.
As of current, he is undergoing treatment in a Sri Lankan hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. His condition is believed to be very serious.
