The family of an Indian, who has been detained in the Maldives for allegedly abusing a minor sexually in F. Feali eight months ago has appealed to Union Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj seeking his release
"The Hindu Times" had reported his wife, Jyoti Jayachandran as saying that the detention was completely "illegal".
“But it was found that the incident was a classroom issue blown up out of proportion. Subsequently, the complaint was withdrawn by the victim and his parents, but the Police Department still pursued the case by extending the custody,” Ms. Jyothi said.
Mrs Jayachandran is now in Delhi and intends to speak with the Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj regarding the release of her husband. She has already received positive feedback from the Indian Embassy and High Commission in the Maldives, and hopes that her husband would be released from custody in the near future.
Mrs Jayachandran also noted that she last spoke to her husband two months back and that he was being shifted to an ‘unknown’ location, which worries her immensely.
