The National Film Award has restarted following a 7-year hiatus.
The award has officially been inaugurated in a special ceremony held in the National Art Gallery on Saturday, and was inaugurated by the Parliament Majority leader and MP Ahmed Nihaan Hussain.
The award was originally introduced in 1995 where it was discontinued after two years. Later it was again re-introduced in 2007 and again discontinued after 2 years.
This time the award is being initiated by the National Center for the Arts, who say that the awards will be given out on October 15th. NCA says that the purpose of restarting the awards was to encourage those working in the film industry.
NCA says that the National Film award is a huge encouragement for those in the industry, and that it promotes a competitive environment.
They expressed hope that monumental changes will be brought to the film industry following the award ceremony.
A lot of performers in the film industry took part in the inauguration ceremony.
