Homeland Ministry asks public to report suspected inmate phone calls

The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has called on the public to report any phone calls believed to be made by inmates.
In a statement, the Ministry said it has identified instances where prisoners have managed to place calls and use them to engage in unlawful activities. To prevent such incidents, new mechanisms have been put in place to enable the public to report suspicious calls that may originate from correctional facilities.
The Ministry advised individuals who receive, or suspect they have received, such calls to visit the Maldives Correctional Service website and submit the phone number along with any relevant information to assist authorities in taking further action.
