Maldives will not permit territory use in Middle East or Gulf conflicts: President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Maldives will not permit its territory to be used in any capacity in relation to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
He made the remarks during a press briefing held today at the President’s Office, emphasising that the Maldives will not allow its land, sea, or airspace to be utilised for any military or warfare-related purposes.
Responding to reports of a visit by a United States State Department envoy, the President said that while the Maldives remains open to dialogue with representatives of other countries, this does not extend to Israel. He further noted that although a request for a meeting has been received from the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, no discussions have yet taken place with the Maldivian Government.
He added that, even if such a meeting takes place, the Maldives would maintain a clear and consistent position of non-involvement in the ongoing conflicts.
Reaffirming the Government’s stance, the President expressed opposition to the conflicts and stressed that any actions violating the independence and sovereignty of nations are unacceptable. He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
The President also reiterated that Israel is not recognised by the Maldivian Government or its people, and condemned the prolonged suffering endured by the Palestinian people.
