Woman and man in their 50s arrested with 32 grams of drugs in Hulhumale' Hiyaa flat

A woman and a man in their 50s were arrested on Monday on suspicion of drug trafficking.
Police said a 57‑year‑old woman and a 52‑year‑old man were taken into custody under a court warrant after officers raided a Hiyaa‑flat apartment in Hulhumale'. The operation was carried out following a tip‑off received by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence.
The suspects were identified as Mohamed Waheed, 52, of Naseemeege, M. Muli, and Aminath Ibrahim, 57, of Mushikulaage, S. Feydhoo.
According to police, suspected drugs were recovered from the apartment, with a provisional weight of 32.6 grams.
Both suspects were taken before the court and remanded in custody for five days. Police said the case remains under investigation.
Drug offences continue to be one of the Maldives’ most pressing social issues, with 1,951 drug‑related cases reported so far this year.
Another drug case was reported on Sunday, when a young police officer was arrested in Th. Vandhoo for allegedly attempting to traffic drugs. The 25‑year‑old officer from Th. Hirilandhoo tested positive for drugs at the time of arrest. Police said five rubber packets containing suspected drugs were found on him and in his belongings. He has been suspended from duty pending investigation.
