STELCO fast-tracks electricity network modernisation project in Dhigurah

State Electric Company Ltd (STELCO) has initiated a project to modernise the electricity network in Dhigurah, Alif Dhaalu Atoll in a bid to ensure uninterrupted power supply on the island.
Stelco said the installation of the new electricity network is now underway at a fast pace as part of the distribution network upgrade work to further expand and strengthen the electricity system on the island, in line with the infrastructural development on the island. As part of the first phase of this initiative, the establishment of a sub-station and development of a 1,500kv upstream capacity is ongoing.
STELCO revealed that the aim to complete the first phase by the end of next week. It also assured that with the upgrades, the local community can be assured of sustainable and uninterrupted power supply.
Dhigurah has a resident population of 600. The island is renowned for its natural beauty and its local tourism.
The island currently houses 14 guesthouses. As such, guaranteed power supply would not only boost day-to-day living conditions of the residents but will be a step towards strengthening the economic activities carried out on the island.
