President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed has said that allowing opposition Maldivian Democratic Party to protest unhindered demonstrates the government's commitment towards guaranteeing the Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Assembly enshrined in the Constitution.

Last night's demonstration by MDP was the largest opposition rally held since this administration came to office.
Hundreds marched on the streets of Male' last night, demanding the resignation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and several cabinet ministers.

When the rally concluded, Heena posted on social media X that Police had provided security and the march had been allowed to proceed without obstruction.
She declared that President Muizzu's policy is to ensure freedom of expression and to protect that right.
