A vessel carrying cement and aggregate has run capsized over a reef.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), in a message shared with local media on Sunday, said the vessel, identified as ‘Venice’ was a 100-foot supply boat, which ran aground near Noonu atoll Maavaidhoo.
The boat was en-route to Haa Alifu atoll after disembarking from Male’ City.
MNDF said the boat carried 13 crewmen onboard, but did not sustain any injuries. The authority received report of the incident around 03:59hrs on Sunday early morning.
This is the second such incident reported in as recent as a week, with another vessel ‘Leo Wing’ ran aground en route to its destination. The boat had been carrying over 1070 sacks of food samples to Gaafu Alifu atoll Nilandhoo and Dhaandhoo – a gift for the locals of these islands from Leo Trading for the upcoming Ramadan.
