Child molestation case against Adil could not be proven in court

Criminal Court has issued a verdict on Maradhoo MP Hassan Adil’s child molestation case, and said that he is not guilty as the case could not be proven in court.
The Court said today that Adil denied the charges against him, of molesting a 13 year old girl on several occasions since December 2010.
The verdict says that because enough evidence as required by Article 47 of the law relating to special protection of children were not presented, the case against Adil could not be proven in court.
Previous hearings for the case had accommodated statements from the defendant Adil, as well as the plaintiff.
Article 3 (a) of special protection of children law prohibits touching an underage child with sexual intent, and Article 3 (c) of indicates that a jail sentence of 10 to 14 years is applicable if convicted.
