The amendment to the political party amendment by Makunudhoo MP Anara has been rejected by the parliament.
Anara proposed to change the minimum number of people required for a party to receive financial aid from the government to 7000. At the number of members required is 10000.  Twenty three members voted for the bill and forty two members voted against the bill. Most of the MDP members voted for the bill.
At the moment there are 6 parties registered in the Maldives.
