Civil Court has released the bank accounts of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (Mifco), after ordering a freeze of the company’s accounts on Monday.
Mifco’s attorney Nadheem Ibrahim said Civil Court asked the banks to unfreeze Mifco’s account today, after ordering the company to comply with the court’s orders.
The freeze was ordered after the government’s main fish processing and export company failed to comply with an earlier Civil Court ruling, ordering the company to reinstate a former employee.
Asif Ahmed was dismissed from Mifco's Kooddoo branch on 26 February 2008. Civil Court ruled that Asif was dismissed in violation of the Employment Regulation, and ordered Mifco to reinstate him to the same position and give him the lost salary and allowances within 30 days from the day of the ruling.
Civil Court’s recent order to freeze the company’s accounts has cause it “indescribable losses”, said Mifco’s Managing Director Ahmed Bunyamin.
