Economic Minister Muhammad Saeed have said that, everyone working in the business sector should be aware of the changes that will come once the government signs free trade agreements with various countries.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the capacity building workshop, “Impact on preferential trade liberalization in goods” the minister said that it is a high priority of the president to expand trade and increase exports of Maldives.
The minister said that, the impact of free trade should be properly researched and various institutions should research and publish their findings. “ It is possible to research on these areas. Information is available online. So even the business community should be aware and research themselves. Even government institutions should research as well” said the Minister. In addition, he said it is important to figure out the advantages and disadvantages that comes with free trade agreements and also it is important to analyze the changes it will bring to the price of imported and exported goods.
“It is a must to do the economic changes free trade agreements brought to different countries” said the minister.
Today’s workshop is being conducted with technical assistance from UN and with participation from their experts.
