Penal code implementation was delayed against constitution- Ali Hussein

Kendhoo constituency MP, Ali Hussein has said that the implementation of the new penal code was delayed by the government against the constitution and the regulations implemented in the Majlis.
Ali Hussein made this remark speaking at last night’s rally of the “Maldivians, against tyranny” movement. He said that the reason for the delay is not because the responsible institutions or the staff are not ready for its implementation. He said that the reason for the delay in the implementation of the new penal code is because the government wants to arrest all political opponents.
Ali Hussein said that a bill passed by the Majlis cannot be changed without bringing an amendment to it. “This is not lawful. However this was what was done today,” he said.
He said that more than 1100 people have been trained for the new penal code under the UNDP fund.
“They have been taught and trained regarding the new penal code. They are staff from the investigative institutions, from the judiciary and independent institutions,” he said.
Ali Hussein said that the government does not value this because they are not concerned with the affairs of the people.
“They are more concerned with their own politics and interests. They don’t care about the people. They want to oppress the people,” he said.
