"Human’s death sentence is a cover up of Afrasheem’s death" – Ali Waheed

Former MP and MDP party member Ali Waheed accuses the government for trying to cover up the death of late Afrasheem Ali.
He claims that government’s surge to conclude the case of the late MP’s death by pinning the allegations and death sentence on Hussain Humam (H. Lobby) is a political propaganda to cover up the actual reason of Afrasheem’s death.
Speaking during a rally held last night، Ali Waheed spoke in front of Nalahiya Hotel، stating that the current government came into power under the pretext of upholding religion and country، with an eye-for-an-eye policy on murder.
He also highlighted، Former President Maumoon’s regime which lasted for 3o years did not see any single case of the convicted pleaded or found guilty of murder given death sentence.
“Till this day، lower courts، high courts and supreme court had not sentenced a single convict with death sentence، starting from 1979، during Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s regime، he had all three powers of the state، so if he loves religion as he claims، why did his regime failed to pass the death sentence to those who were found guilty of murder” Ali Waheed questioned his audience.
Ali Waheed went on to add، further that، Home Minister Umar Naseer is insistent on proceeding with Humam’s death، so far as to create “Death Chamber” in Maafushi Jail and to opt means of lethal injection or noose for his death، stating that the increase pace of this is to soil the actual people tied to Afrasheem’s death.
He also urged that Police had failed to produce any details to media or the citizens regarding the death of Afrasheem and moreover they have denied in sharing the investigation outcome with anyone.
“Since 2012، Police and MNDF are under their power، they have kept everything discreet، from the point of Afrasheem’s body being taken to ADK to the FBI assisted investigation’s outcome” Ali Waheed asserted.
With this he moved on to highlight the disappearance of Minivan news reporter Ahmed Rizwan Abdhulla، and Police had denied sharing details of investigation in a similar fashion.
“It has been 100 days to his disappearance، and Police have failed to inform his family about any outcomes of the case، and where it has proceeded، but there are many witness accounts placing a red car in front of Rizwan’s apartment and someone being taken without his consent in the vehicle as well as a knife recovered from the crime scene، but all Police did was to cover up and hide these facts from the citizens” Ali Waheed added.
