Economic Ministry has stated that shops will be opened until 11pm, effective from yesterday for a period of ten days.
An article on Haveeru, quoting Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, said that the period will end by end of January. Minister Saeed also said that the decision was taken to give citizens additional time to complete their purchases for the new academic year.
“Many parents and businesses say they need more time for business transactions, especially given this is the holiday season,” Minister Saeed said.
The Ministry stressed that the ruling was not applicable to cafés and restaurants which will have to close at the designated time of midnight.
The decree to close shops at 10pm was passed on March 25th.
