The “Fahi Ali” program to install street lights in “Jumhooree Maidhaan” (Republic Square) and “Boduthakurufaanu Magu”، Germany’s GIZ Program had donated 100 LED street lights to the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The LED lights were handed over during a special ceremony held at the ministry today، received by Minister of Environment، Thoriq Ibrahim.
100 LED lights for harbour (“Boduthakurufaanu Magu”) and 40 LED lights to be installed at “Jumhooree Maidhaan” was handed over today.
Speaking after the handover ceremony، Minister Thoriq stated that the street lights will be installed within the next 15 days، which would save about 68% energy، which is about Rf. 28،000 per month.
Noting that over 70،000 street lights in other islands and 277،000 street lights in Male’ were installed last year، Minister Thoriq said it is projected to install more lights in Male’ and other islands this year as well.
