Tholhath appeals 10-year jail sentence

The former Defense Minister Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu – who was issued with 10 years of imprisonment due to terrorism charges charged on him- has appealed his verdict in the High Court.
Tholhath was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment on 10th of April and his verdict appeal duration has been due at 2:00 p.m today.
The verdict by the Criminal Court was issued after the consent of Presiding bench of 3 Judges. The sentence was issued on the counts of 5 elements presented by the State; The President decided to detain Abdulla Gaazee، Tholhath was involved in the planning and the execution of the decision، MNDF had arrested Abdulla Gaazee، Abdulla Gaazee was kept in Girifushi and Abdulla Gaazee was arrested forcefully.
The verdict statement stated that the evidences provided by the state proves that Tholhath is guilty of the charges pressed against him.
Apart from Ziyad، the terrorism charge for illegally detaining and isolating Abdulla Gaazee in 2012 had been raised for MNDF Male’ Area Commander Brigadier General Rtd. Ibrahim Mohamed Didi، Chief of Defense Force Moosa Ali Jaleel، former Defense Minister Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu and the Former President Mohamed Nasheed .
From the state pressed terrorism charges against the above stated، the Former president Nasheed’s trial had been concluded with a verdict of 13 years of Jail and the former Defense Minister Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu has been issued a verdict of 10 years in jail while Chief of Defense Force Moosa Ali Jaleel has been found not guilty of the charges.
