Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim states adequate works are being done to reduce the consumption level of diesel through vehicles، machinery and other means.
While speaking at the workshop to compile the INDC report to present for the Climatic agreement، Minister Thoriq emphasized on the government’s prime focus on reducing diesel usage and consumption rate by creating a renewable energy based power output up to 30%.
“If successful then the oil or diesel consumption rate will be minimized، this mean’s government’s expenditure on oil and diesel will be cut down as well” he said.
Thoriq also stated that he aims Maldives to be among the first island nations to present the INDC report، and so far a total of 39 countries have already presented theirs.
“Every nation is required to file and present a Intended National Determined Contribution (INDC) report for the climatic agreement by the end of 2021، which discusses on the various ways a country can help contribute for the climatic changes and reduce the damage contribution level to the environment. This workshop’s main motive is to compile the needed INDC report which holds important notes and transcripts which discusses on how to avert climatic adversities in national level” he said.
According to Thoriq، before world nations sit down for the climatic agreement in 2021، he wishes to raise concern and complain about the certain environmental and climatic threats imposed on to a country like Maldives.
In addition to this، Environment Minister had highlighted the report must included poisonous gas release figures and methods on how to reduce these figures.
Thoriq had stated the government is actively working on pressing climatic issues such as land erosion، water scarcity during drought periods and installment of proper sewage systems in every inhabited island of Maldives.
