Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), “Bandhu” Ibrahim Saleem has said that a major renovation project of the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport will be commenced this year.
Bandhu Saleem made this remark speaking at the press conference held by MACL to announce the commencement of flights of the llargest airline in Europe, Deutsche Lufthansa AG, commonly known as Lufthansa, a flag carrier of Germany.
Bandhu Saleem said that there are many difficulties faced in the airport because of the lack of any renovation works in recent times. In this regard, he noted the issue of fuel discharge left in the airport by airplanes during landing because of the damages in the runway.
He said that the airport will get a spirit of five years with the renovation works. He said that they had been very inconsiderate regarding the renovation of the airport.
Bandhu Saleem added that a new runway will be also built as part of the renovation works. He said that the airport will be developed into a state of the art modern airport.
