Photos of the housing of Ex-President Mohamed Nasheed at Maafushi Prison have been leaked.
The pictures now on social media show the former President’s bedroom, dining room and swing.
Media Official of the Correctional Service said that they cannot make a comment regarding the leaked pictures.
President Nasheed’s bedroom shown in the pictures is a modern bedroom with green walls with air conditioning, a comfortable bed and a cupboard set.
The second picture shows a sitting room with a table with five chairs. This room also looks modern with air conditioning.
The third picture shows a comfortable swing with sand and plants in the ground suggesting it is in the sun.
After visiting the prison on his visit to the Maldives, the Chairman of the British-Maldives All Party Parliamentary Group and MP of the British Conservative Party, Sir David Amess said that President Nasheed was being kept in a quality luxurious place.
Sir Amess said that that they have visited the Maafushi Prison and observed the cell for the Ex-President Mohamed Nasheed. He said that the former President was incarcerated in a comfortable cell compared to all the prisons they have visited in the UK and the President was treated well.
Ex-President Nasheed was serving his 13-year prison sentence at a special housing built at the prison.
He is currently in the UK for medical treatment.
