Ministry of Tourism has stated all tourists arriving in Maldives through cruise liners and passenger liners will be screened for coronavirus.
Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Minister of Tourism Assad Riza said the administration has been taking precautionary measures against the highly contagious virus, in accordance to the advice of World Health Organisation (WHO). Noting the administration will not prioritise economic benefits over the health and well-being of Maldivian citizens, the deputy minister said screening mechanisms have been set up in airports as well as seaports. In this regard, he said all tourists arriving through cruise liners or passenger liners will be screened for the virus before being allowed to step into Male’ City.
Deputy Minister Assad added the ministry will also check will local tour agencies to confirm if an inbound cruise liner has any passengers coming from a region affected by the virus. He said the ministry is working to provide information to all tourist facilities across Maldives on the safety measures to be taken against the spread of coronavirus.
