Commissioner General of Customs Ibrahim Shareef have said that last year narcotics weighing 75kg was confiscated by the customs in 25 different operations and that it is a record amount.
He made this statement while speaking at a ceremony held at customs building this morning to mark World Customs Day. Shareef said that the staffs of customs are working hard and sincerely to prevent smuggling of illegal items into the country. He said that with the body scan machine at Velana International Airport the work of the customs officers has become more efficient.
In this ceremony, Home Minister Azleen Ahmed awarded certificates to customs officers who earned the merit certificate of World Customs Organization. In addition, staffs who served for more than 20 years to the organization were awarded with letters of recognition.
