An island of the Maldives has been auction off for USD 892,000 (MVR 13.7 million) China’s largest online shopping website, Taobao. The website sold the island on Saturday during China’s “Double 12” shopping festival. "When you did not get up at 9 am this morning, some rich guy spent nearly 6 million yuan to buy an island in the Maldives at an auction. Of course, even if you got up, you may not be able to afford to buy it," Taobao said on its official website. The identity of the purchaser or which island was sold has not been disclosed. According to Taobao, this marks the first the website has sold an island.
