The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Maldives Tung-Lai Margue, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Thursday.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Minister Shahid highlighted the close relations between Maldives and European Union. Additionally, the Minister further discussed ways to strengthen existing ties with the Union.
Ambassador Margue stated that the European Union will be providing assistance and support to the Maldives on counter-terrorism strategy strengthening institutions and implementing anti-corruption measures in the Maldives.
Foreign Minister Shahid requested the EU’s assistance in easing Schengen-Visa application process for Maldivians.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Shahid and Ambassador Margue discussed about preparations for the upcoming Maldives-EU Policy dialogue.
Minister Shahid was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, Ambassador of Maldives to Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union Hassan Sobir and Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shiuneen Rasheed.
