Green Tax revenue drop by 3.5% in February 2020

The Green Tax revenue earned in February 2020 declined by 3.5% compared to the corresponding month in 2019.
According to the latest in Green Fund Report from Maldives Ministry of Finance, the total revenue earned to state through Green Tax was recorded at MVR77,023,981.14 for February 2020.
The revenue composition of Green Tax is as follows;
Statistics further revealed the balance of Green Fund by end of 2019 was recorded at MVR782,581,639.01.
The current balance, including January’s Green Tax total of MVR84,925,842.05 along with February’s total and expenditures in both January and February at MVR584,873.27 and MVR25,672,235.54 respectively, puts the total at MVR918,274,353.39.
Green Tax is levied on all tourist properties including tourist resorts, hotels and guesthouses along with safari vessels and liveaboards. The tax is levied at USD6 per head from tourist resorts and hotels, while USD3 per person from guesthouses.
Due to the drop in new arrivals to Maldives, in light of the COVID-19 viral pandemic, the tourism sector have been facing strong detriments which in turn was reflected on the Green Tax collection as well.
