The government has abolished the National Center for Information Technology (NCIT) and established a new agency, the Maldives Digital Service, to lead the implementation of the Maldives 2.0 digital transformation agenda.
According to an announcement issued by the President’s Office on Thursday, the new agency will operate under the Home Ministry. The decision took effect immediately.
The Maldives Digital Service has been designated as the lead agency responsible for implementing the Maldives 2.0 Roadmap 2025–2028: Journey to Digital Transformation. In addition to its new mandate, the agency will also assume all responsibilities previously carried out by NCIT.

Government agencies have been instructed to use the number 1137 when sending official correspondence to the Maldives Digital Service.
“Maldives 2.0” is the President’s national vision for digital transformation, a plan aimed at reshaping how government services are delivered, how the economy grows, and how essential information reaches every citizen across every island.
