The fourth government-run optical shop has officially been opened at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.
This is part of the government’s effort to ease financial burden on citizens. The facilities were opened by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, in a ceremony attended by Chief Executive Officer of the Male’ City Group of Hospitals Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem along with management and staff of the hospital.
With the inauguration of this shop, affordable optical care has been enhanced across the country.
The government has also increased the health coverage on purchase of optical to USD 129.53 biannually and decided for the service to be provided at a government run shop, easing the burden on many citizens. So far, a total of 12,988 individuals has sought services at the opticals, with 12,056 individuals recieved glasses at government expense.
The other government run optical shops are located in Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH), followed by two shops in the Greater Male’ Region at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Hulhumale’ Hospital.
While the demand for optical services is immense in the country, the government has taken the initiative to enhance its services further.
