Siyam urges against allowing acts that threaten unity and order

Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, the president of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and the parliamentary representative for Dh. Meedhoo constituency, on Friday, has urged against allowing any individual to carry out an act that threatens the unity and bonds among Maldivian citizens, or disturbs order in the country.
In an address to the nation on National Unity Day, Siyam conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to the people of the Maldives on the occasion.
He remarked that December 26th, observed each year as National Unity Day after the devastating tsunami that wreaked havoc across the Maldives on December 26th, 2004, serves as a reminder of the unity and strong bonds demonstrated by Maldivian citizens on that day.
Siyam noted that Maldivians continue to recall the painful memories of the tsunami with deep emotions. He added that, on that day, Maldivians set a powerful example of courage by placing the lives of others above their own.
“The most valuable lesson Maldivians learned from such a devastating and perilous situation was the need to place the safety of the nation and society above one’s self. It is the purpose of celebrating the National Unity Day,” he said.
Siyam advised to remember the unity and strong bonds shown by Maldivian citizens on that day and to continue drawing lessons from it even today. He strongly urged against allowing any individual to carry out an act that threatens the unity and bonds among Maldivian citizens, or disturbs order in the country.
He concluded his address with a prayer for the protection of Maldivian citizens from various disasters, for greater unity among the people, and for the courage to always prioritize the national interest, even amid differing opinions.
