Shuaib Abdul Rahman appointed NIC President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Shuaib Abdul Rahman as the new President of the National Integrity Commission (NIC).
Shuaib’s appointment follows the expiry of the term of former President Gasim Abdul Kareem on Sunday. The terms of three other members, Vice President Ashiyath Shiuna, Shuaib himself, and Aiminath Shadia, also expired on the same day.
On Sunday, President Muizzu appointed four new members to the commission: Shuaib Abdul Rahman, Shifaz Ali, Ali Mohamed Manik, and Fathimath Shareef. The commission is currently chaired by Maryam Insha Faisal, who was appointed on December 16 last year.
According to the President’s Office, Shuaib was appointed President under the powers granted to the President by the National Integrity Commission Act.
The NIC is mandated to investigate and take action against unlawful conduct by law enforcement agencies. It also has the authority to initiate investigations independently.
