Dredging works for the land reclamation project in V. Keyodhoo will begin early next year, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
President Muizzu, who is on an eight-day tour of four atolls in central Maldives, made the remarks on Saturday morning, during a visit to Keydhoo, an island of some 900 people.
Addressing a rally in Keyodhoo, President Muizzu said that adding more land to the island is crucial for its development.
He said that practical works on reclamation of 12 hectors of land will begin early next year.
In his speech, President Muizzu noted that Keyodhoo is a popular local tourism hotspot.

He announced plans to establish a USD ATM center in Keyodhoo by March next year, to boost its tourism industry.
During his visit to Keydhoo, President Muizzu also oversaw the award of contracts to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to construct new buildings for the island’s health center and school.
The contracts were signed by MTCC’s Managing Director Ahmed Saudhy,Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and State Minister for Education Dr. Abdul Latheef Mohamed.
According to the MTCC, the MVR 23.79 million school project will see the construction of a building with 11 classrooms, a staffroom, a computer lab, and a science lab.
The project seeks to address a severe shortage of space at the school’s existing building.
Meanwhile, the MVR 29.89 million health center project will see the construction of a new health center building with 20 beds, a lab, a ward, and a public health space, complete with a medical gas system, air conditioning system, and fire safety system.
