Former Minister Hamdhoon Hameed has been appointed as an advisor to the Minister of Finance and Planning.
The Ministry confirmed the appointment, noting his position is at the ministerial level, though the specific date of his appointment remains unclear.
Hamdhoon Hameed has had a long public service career having served as the Minister of Planning and National Development under former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's government from 2003 until 2008. He later served as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Singapore from 2016 until 2018.
The advisory role for Hamdhoon Hameed with an extensive planning background follows a recent government restructuring where the Ministry of Finance and Planning was renamed and its mandate revised in a cabinet reshuffle in December last year. This change involved transferring the planning functions from the former Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Urban Development.
