Moosa Ali Jaleel dismissed from defence minister

Major General (Retired) Moosa Ali Jaleel who was in the position of Minister of Defence and National Security has been dismissed from office.
Spokesperson for the President’s Office، Ibrahim Muaz Ali has confirmed this news through a tweet.
Speaking in the media، Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that Moosa Ali Jaleel was dismissed from office some time last night and that the reason for his dismissal cannot be disclosed.
Moosa Ali Jaleel has been dismissed from office at such a time when an explosion has taken aboard the presidential launch “Finifenma”.
With regards to that incident، the senior security head of President، Colonel Ahmed Fayaz and MNDF Ordnance Service in-charge were also dismissed from their positions.
In addition to this، two MNDF officers were arrested on the 7th of this October in relation to the explosion aboard “Finifenma”. The officers who were arrested and put on a 15 day remand by the court are Mohamed Jawaz and Moosa Zameer. While both of them work in the MNDF Ordnance Service، Moosa Zameer among the two works in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).
Moosa Ali Jaleel was appointed as the Defence Minister of President Yameen’s cabinet on 20th January 2015. He was appointed after the former Defence Minister، Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim was dismissed from the position. Before being appointed as the Defence Minister، Moosa Ali Jaleel was the Maldivian Ambassador to Pakistan.
The government has pressed terror charges on Moosa Ali Jaleel who was Chief of Staff at the time for illegal arrest of Interim Justice of Criminal Court، Abdulla Mohamed during the presidency of Mohamed Nasheed. However، after court hearings، it was ruled that he was not guilty of the charges pressed against him.
