The cause for the water shortage has been identified as a fire that broke out in one of the generators of the Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC)، who holds a state-induced monopoly in water supply.
Since then، multitudes have hit the stores in attempts to acquire water that ultimately isn’t available in enough quantity. The government has، therefore negotiated means to have the needed quantity delivered from abroad.
President Yameen has established a special taskforce to tackle the crisis. The president himself is currently abroad on a personal visit.
