Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of India Arrives in Maldives

Dr. S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary of India, has arrived in the Maldives this morning.
He was greeted on arrival at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, by Foreign Secretary. Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
Dr. S. Jaishankar is on a one-day official visit to the Maldives, as the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of India. The special envoy is accompanied by Ms. Suchitra Durai, Joint Secretary and Dr. Shilpak N. Ambule, Director.
Dr. S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary of India, called on Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives Monday.
During the call, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Minister and Foreign Secretary discussed on the extensive cooperation between the two countries. They also looked into ways of enhancing the close ties of friendship, in celebration of 50 years since establishment of diplomatic ties. Maldives and India established formal diplomatic ties on 1 November 1965.
Foreign Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and Joint Secretary, Ms. Farzana Zahir, also participated in the meeting.
Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed hosted a luncheon in the honour of the Foreign Secretary of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar and visiting delegation.
Discussions during lunch, focused on ways on strengthening the close bilateral ties between the two countries and on moving ahead with more positive energy.
This is the first official visit of Dr. Jaishankar to the Maldives, since he assumed responsibilities of Foreign Secretary in January this year. The lunch was held at Kurumba Maldives.
