Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar have said that fire safety systems for tall buildings will be budgeted for next year.
Speaking at a ceremony held to publish an SOP during a fire incident on tall buildings, the minister said that the government prioritizes the safety of people and property. Hence he requested MNDF to obtain details of the equipment they would need in case of a fire on a tall building.
In addition, the minister said that MNDF always prepares in advance and the current plans also proves that. He said that he notes various other works that are being done by MNDF. The participants of the workshop held regarding the fire safety mechanisms, highlighted the importance of training and resources.
Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Abdullah Zuhury of fire and rescue team of MNDF, said that while the height of buildings in Male’ are increasing it is important to have an SOP to act in case of a fire. He said that in such a scenario, putting out fire and rescuing people is something that should be planned for in advance. He said that while a lot of people are living in high rise buildings these days, a lot of importance should be given to this issue.
