National Football Team Receives Hero’s Welcome After South Asian Super Cup Triumph

The Maldives National Football Team was given a hero’s welcome on their return to the Maldives following their victory in the South Asian Super Cup 2025.
The team was greeted at Velana International Airport (VIA) by officials from the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, alongside members of the sporting community. Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal, Football Association of Maldives (FAM)’s President Ahmed Thoriq were among those present, with a special item presented at the airport to honour the team’s achievement.
An official welcome was held later the same evening at the National Stadium, attended by Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu and a large number of supporters. Fans were given the opportunity to take photos with the Super Cup trophy and the national team players.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also congratulated the team via a social media post, stating that he was proud of the national football team and their victory in the South Asian Super Cup.
The Maldives won the South Asian Super Cup 2025 with a 4-1 aggregate victory over Sri Lanka. Maldives won the first leg of the tournament 3-0, while the second leg ended in a 1-1 draw.
