The proposed state budget for 2026 has allocated USD 363.18 million for the education sector, making it the second-largest allocation in the budget after the health sector.
According to the budget breakdown, USD 123.24 million has been earmarked for pre-school and primary education, USD 77.87 million for secondary education, USD 14.14 million for higher secondary education, and USD 53.94 million for higher education.
Under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), USD 50.52 million has been allocated for various projects in the education sector. This includes USD 38.81 million for the construction and upgrading of schools, USD 8.05 million for higher education projects, USD 0.45 million for research institutes and libraries, and USD 7.58 million for colleges and universities.
Next year's budget also allocates USD 25.02 million for religious services. While USD 3 million has been proposed for the construction of mosques under the PSIP, USD 2 million has been allocated for other religious activities.
